Vocational Schools
Vocational schools cater to young men and women who cannot continue with their education due to a lack of funds and those who cannot take up any form of employment because they lack the necessary technical skills. The aim of the vocational training is to train youth who will promote rural development by going back to work in their communities of origin. After graduation they have technical skills necessary for them to contribute to the development of their country.
The young people are trained in commerce and administration; financial accounting, construction, tropical agriculture, carpentry & joinery, motor mechanics, electrical engineering; hotel and tourism; and animal husbandry depending on the country the school is in.
The training exposes the students to the real world work experience in their vocations. This is done in two ways. First, at the college the students are actively involved in production work. Secondly, students gain work experience through industrial attachments. The students are attached to companies in their different areas of study and work under the supervision of the company authorities and their teachers’ visit them to assess their performance.
This kind of experiences make it possible for students to have a broader and a more practical understanding of their field of study and of the real situation in the work places.
The experience at the school gives the students an opportunity to develop mentally, physically and socially so that they can become professional people who can make an effective contribution to development in the country.
