What You Can (and Can't) Donate to Planet Aid

Donate Gently Used Clothes, Shoes and Other Textiles

We work to divert a variety of textiles from the U.S. waste stream in order to provide affordable second hand clothes and fundraise for local community development programs. Help us maximize fundraising for good causes in the U.S. and around the globe by donating (and not donating) these items.

Clothes for men, women, and children

• Pants, shirts, jackets, skirts, dresses, and blouses
• Socks and Underwear: New or gently used only. Must be in wearable condition.
• Shoes: Footwear of all styles and sizes.
• Accessories: Hats, gloves, scarves, belts, handbags, jewelry and backpacks

Other Textiles

• Bedding: Sheets, pillowcases, blankets, comforters and throw pillows. We don't accept bed pillows.
• Curtains: Window coverings of any size and style.
• Towels: Bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths.
• Sleeping Bags: Essential for those in colder climates.
• Bags: handbags, purses and backpacks

What We Cannot Accept

We don't accept electronics, furniture, mattresses, appliances, accessories like glasses, housewares like silverware, dishes, home décor and rugs. These items can be donated at our Thrift Store. We also can't accept used car seats or strollers in our bins or at our Thrift store.

In addition, we cannot accept textiles in unusable condition, including:

• Wet Items: Moisture can cause mold and mildew.
• Soiled Items: Significant stains and dirt can prevent reuse (lightly stained items are accepted).
• Moldy Items: Mold can pose health risks and spread to other donations.

Best Practices for Donations

To protect your donations from the elements, we recommend placing all items in plastic bags. This helps keep them clean and dry, ensuring they can be used by those in need. Proper packaging also makes the sorting and distribution process more efficient.
