Earth Day Clothing Drive

Take a small step to reduce textile waste!

Planet Aid is kicking off a week-long clothing drive from April 22-29 to celebrate Earth Day.

We're challenging individuals, communities, businesses, nonprofits and other organizations to donate clothes and shoes during Planet Aid's Earth Day Clothing Drive.

Donating clothes and shoes may seem like a small step, but it really adds up. Taking this small step together, we can dramatically reduce textile waste by reusing clothes and shoes. Your donations also help raise money to fund programs that strengthen communities, keep usable clothes and shoes out of landfills, and contribute to a more sustainable future.

How to participate in Planet Aid's Earth Day Clothing Drive

1. Tell your friends and family. Share this poster to help promote the event.
2. Find the nearest donation location. If there isn't one near you, mail a box.
3. Pack your unwanted clothes and shoes in a plastic bag and drop them in a bin. Here's a list of what you can (and can't) donate.
4. Post a picture or video of your donation to social media to encourage others. Mention Planet Aid (@PlanetAid) and use #EarthDayDrive when you post and we'll like and share.
5. Generate a receipt for your tax deductible donation.

The fashion industry wreaks havoc on the environment, consuming vast amounts of limited resources and generating immense pollution and waste. Americans discard 17 million pounds of textiles annually, with 66% ending up in landfills.

Beyond environmental harm, fast fashion exploits workers. Brands are notorious for underpaying and overworking employees.

The good news? We can take simple steps together to dramatically reduce the harm caused by the fashion industry. Planet Aid makes it easy to donate clothes and shoes to be reused. This keeps the clothes out of U.S. landfills and incinerators and helps fuel a growing secondhand textile industry. Reusing clothes also helps to reduce the demand for new clothes.

Planet Aid is a nonprofit organization, proceeds from the sale of donated clothes and shoes fund vital programs working to strengthen communities through education, health and wellness, and agricultural and environmental sustainability.
