Month-Long Clothing Drive Rallies the Fall River, MA Community to Donate Unused and Unwanted Textiles

Fall River, a city in Bristol County, Massachusetts, is home to one of Planet Aid’s Donation Centers that is holding a clothing drive throughout June. This center is a fully manned, drive-up, or walk-in site, where the city's residents can drop off their clothing, shoes, and other textile donations. On Saturday, June 1, Planet Aid staff and volunteers came out in full force to support the month-long clothing drive for the Fall River Donation Center.

Planet Aid put the word out, in advance on social media and mailers, inviting donors to clean out their closets and drop by the Donation Center for free hot dogs and chips. Staffers even took to Instagram Live to let everyone know about the event.

Over 120 people came out to support with bags of clothing in tow. Their generosity jumpstarted the clothing drive with an estimated 1,800 pounds of textile donations on the first day.

The Fall River Donation Center Clothing Drive will continue through June 30, and there’s a special perk for anyone donating 25 pounds or more. They will be entered to win a 58-inch UHD 4K Hisense Roku TV.

“This month-long clothing drive is just one of the initiatives we are planning, to help Fall River and broader New England communities be greener and cleaner. This event is also an opportunity to thank our donors who have helped us keep tons of used textiles out of landfills and fundraise for U.S. and international community development," said Planet Aid Northeast Sales Manager, Michael Barys. "Planet Aid’s Donation Center also helps Massachusetts, successfully, implement its textile dumping ban by providing a sustainable, convenient, and free textile reuse option.”

The Planet Aid Donation Center recently celebrated two years at its Fall River location. It opened on Earth Day, Friday, April 22, 2022, with Fall River's Mayor Patrick Coogan in attendance at the ribbon cutting. Mayor Coogan conferred a mayoral citation for Planet Aid Donation Center's grand opening.

Since the Donation Center's opening, Planet Aid has continued its commitment to be a good neighbor with accessible textile donations, job opportunities, and a commitment to uplift the zero-waste goals of the state with calls to environmental action and stewardship.
