HPPI was recognized because of its achievements with its educational outreach program "Kadam Step-up Centers" and for its rural and urban community development programs.
As HPPI's flagship education program, the Kadam Step-up Centers focus on enrolling children who have not entered school or who have dropped out. The centers provide classes six days a week to students ages 6-14. The classes offer marginalized youth a chance to "catch up" and, with the support of the centers, enroll in government schooling at the appropriate age and grade level.
The Kadam Step-up Centres do not only address educational needs but the holistic development of a child. This helps them gain sufficient traction and independence to merge with the formal government education system.
The staff at the Centers work to make the program a success for children by not only offering quality lessons on a flexible schedule, but by also raising awareness and mobilizing parents, local school teachers, and educational authorities to work together for children. The staff also organize events in the children's communities, such as village development meetings and health check-up camps.
