Planet Aid's annual report marks 2022 achievements
Planet Aid is pleased to publish our 2022 Annual Report. Last year marked Planet Aid's 25th anniversary and was a year of steady progress for the organization with new partnerships and fresh endeavors. One such endeavor was the introduction of new, solar-powered donation centers, which make used clothing donations more convenient and efficient.
With the help of individuals, communities, organizations, businesses, and schools, Planet Aid diverted over 60 million pounds of textiles from landfills in 2022. The resale of the donated clothing and shoes for reuse raised nearly 3 million dollars for much-needed community development programs in the U.S., Latin America, Africa and Asia.
Planet Aid funds programs that promote education, health and wellness, sustainable agriculture and community development. For example, filling the growing need for qualified educators is one of the core projects Planet Aid supports by funding teacher training in countries like DRC and India.
The first Planet Aid Capacity and Environmental (PACE) grant was also awarded in 2022. These 25,000 grants were presented to three Maryland nonprofit organizations—Vehicles for Change, Laurel Advocacy & Referral Services, and Community Ecology Institute. Each of the organizations are doing incredible life-changing work in their communities.
Clothing donations are vital to people and the planet. Every donated bag:
- provides entrepreneurial opportunities for resellers and influences their economic outcomes
- reduces greenhouse gases
- conserves water
- lessens fast fashion consumption
