With spring in full bloom, the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and it's time for you to get your garden back in order from the cold winter months.
Gardening tools and supplies can become expensive once it's all said and done. We've put together a list of items you can find at the Planet Aid Thrift Center (or your local thrift store) so that you can outfit yourself for the task of gardening, without having to spend a ton of money.
Hat
Sunshine is great for you and your garden, but too much of it can be harmful to your skin. A hat will help keep those damaging rays off your face and neck so that you can spend hours getting your flowerbed ready.
Something light and breathable, with a large brim, will provide the coverage you need to be able to withstand the sun for hours. The Thrift Center has a large selection of these types of hats, so you can even find something that suites your style! (Also, although it's not sold at the Thrift Center, don't forget to stock up on the sunblock and reapply it every few hours.)
Shirt
For your shirt, you will want to find a light weight, light colored, long sleeve. This will keep your arms protected, but also keep you cool.
Fabrics made from natural fibers, such as cotton, hemp, and linen, absorb moisture, rather than repel it and they are breathable, which allows airflow for drying out dampness caused by sweat. Nylon and polyester fabrics should be avoided for this type of activity. Polyester is water-repellent, meaning rather than absorb sweat, it allows perspiration to build up inside the garment.
Boots
Rain or muck boots are the best shoe wear for stomping around in the wet, muddy ground. However, if the ground is dry, you can also wear Crocs (or any type of rubber clog). These are super comfortable, water resistant, and easy to wash.
Knick Knacks and Books
Although these items aren't part of your gardening attire, we thought they'd be useful. The Thrift Center has tons of knick knacks, including pots and garden statues, that would make the perfect addition to your garden and give it a little bit of personality.
We also found a few books on gardening, incase you're new at it or just need a little inspiration to get you started.
