Members of Shawnee's Girl Scout Troop 412 gathered December 11 and learned more about Planet Aid and textile recycling. In addition to learning about these programs, they also donated clothes and coats as part of their philanthropy badge program.
Kansas City Community Outreach Specialist Alex Medina was their guest and talked about the impact of their donations. "It's important to instill in the younger generation the local impact of donating clothes and shoes," Medina said. "The more kids that learn now about the need to donate their used textiles, the more likely they will be to continue the practice in as adults."
Troop leader Jenni Maurer presented Planet Aid with a check for $20, which the troop raised by selling Girl Scout cookies in the local area.
