The Rhode Island Donation Center in Newport celebrated its first anniversary as a community drop-off spot for donating and recycling household goods. Nearly 700,000 pounds of items have been collected since opening to the public on May 13, 2015.
The Rhode Island Donation Center is a convenient, one-stop location for residents looking to discard household items in an environmentally and socially conscious way. The Center accepts clothing, accessories, shoes, baby items, books and toys, glassware, bedding, draperies, curtains, and more. In addition to taking advantage of the 24/7 drop-off service, residents can schedule curbside pickups by emailing curbside@planetaid.org.
Planet Aid Operations Manager Keith Gregory would like to thank the community members of Newport and Middletown for their support in keeping household items out of the landfill. Here's what a few donors wrote in the Center's guestbook:
"What a relief and convenience for us to drive only a short ride. We live in Newport but had to drive all over to find places to donate clothes! Since you've been here it's been so easy for us to drop off our stuff. Thank you, Planet Aid."
"Great addition to the neighborhood! Recycling is very much needed. Thanks for being here."
"Great location, easy to drop off, and friendly staff!"
