Moving out is an obstacle that every college student faces when it comes time for summer break. Many students realize during the process of moving out that they cannot, or do not want to take home everything that they kept in their dorm during the school year.
Facilities Team Green at the University of Rochester held its ninth annual Move-out Cleanout event, which encourages students to donate any unwanted clothing, non-perishable food, and electronic items. Planet Aid collected the unwanted textiles, while Open Door Mission collected the food, and Sunnking collected the electronics.
This year's Move-out Cleanout marked the second largest in event history. Students donated 2,960 pounds of non-perishable food, 18,137 pounds of clothing and shoes, and 1,179 pounds of electronics!
"This continues to be one of the programs I feel the most pride for. Not only are we helping to keep material out of the landfill, but we are helping people in need, right here in Rochester," said Sustainability Coordinator Amy Kadrie.
