Frequently Asked Questions
What is America Recycles Day?
America Recycles Day, also known as National Recycling Day, is a national observance in the United States dedicated to promoting recycling across the nation. Observed on November 15th every year, the observance is the signature recycling program of Keep America Beautiful (KAB). America Recycles Day (ARD) first started as Texas Recycles Day in 1994.
What is the America Recycles Day Clothing Drive?
Planet Aid is enlisting partners to help collect half a million pounds of clothes and shoes beginning between America Recycles Day on Nov. 15 and Dec. 2
Why is the drive important?
Every year, America generates 17 million tons of textile waste. 85 percent of this waste ends up in landfills or incinerators contributing to pollution. Only 15 percent is reused or recycled. Planet Aid works to increase the amount of used clothes and shoes that is reused and reduce the amount that ends up in U.S. landfills and incinerators.
How can I support the America Recycles Day Clothing Drive?
Host a clothing drive and/or donate your clothes to Planet Aid for America Recycles Day.
What happens to donations?
Trucks full of donations are emptied at our textile reuse facilities where unwanted items are removed from donated clothes and shoes. The majority of donated clothes and shoes are shipped abroad where there's a greater demand for second hand clothing. These used textiles fuel a circular economy that employs millions of individuals.
